Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day!

Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day!

Billy Harper and Jimmy Raynor of Harper Industries, Inc. visited with students at Mayfield Middle School with a “Race for Education” theme. Harper, who set the national record for fastest Nitrous car in 2008 and is the 2008 World Champion in Nitrous racing, brought his race car out to visit with students. The message was clear as Harper explained to the captivated crowd, “What you do now determines what you’ll do in life.” He used real life examples from his own experience and that of his crew to show kids that learning never ends. “Science and technology is used today on this race car that was unheard of when I was in high school,” he explained. He showed students how math, science and technology are used in his and Raynor’s everyday lives as they work with the weights, temperatures, speeds and chemistry involved racing. Raynor emphasized to students the importance of continued education saying, “If you don’t keep learning you’ll become stagnant… Set your goals, achieve them and then you continue to go forward from there.”
Harper also emphasized that no matter what students wanted to do in life, a basic education was a must. “You are responsible for what happens in your life… take charge of your life and don’t miss school. If you aren’t here you can’t get an education,” stated Harper. He and Raynor will return to Mayfield Middle School at the end of the school year with rewards for every student who does not miss a day of school between his visits. Drawings for cash and other prizes will be held until every student with perfect attendance receives a reward.
